Diary of a modern day pioneer couple

Upon James' brilliant idea that he was bored and needed to build something like a house, garage and stables, we sold our 100 acre farm between Goulburn and Marulan and bought a 200 acre farm between Gundaroo and Collector, just outside of Canberra. We are now living on the new farm in a caravan with no electricity, no sewerage and no running water! This is our story. James and Tracey

Carparking

Driving up our road this morning and saw this car "parked". Apparently a young couple were in the car and at the last minute the driver couldn't decide which way to go and hit the brakes and launched! Not only is the car on that boulder, it's also held up by the wire fence! The car is also sitting right next to the power pole. I think they were very lucky that they didn't hit the power pole head on.

Stables are done!

As you can see, the stable walls are done. They were finished this week. We do have the roof trusses but it will be a while before they go up as we're now going to concentrate on the house for a while.

James has been building the verandah this week and oh what a difference it has made to the house. We thought the house was big before, now it's just plain massive. A warning to our family and friends - you're going to have to come and stay with us so we don't get lost!
We are now having a lot more better weather for building. Before it was crap days with some good spots, now it's good days with some crap spots.
On the horse front, we've been restricted by this equine influenza that's going around. Whilst it's nowhere near us, we're still not allowed to move the horses off the property. It's doubtful whether we'll be going to any shows this side of Christmas which isn't too bad - more time for training really.
And speaking of Christmas, it's now only a little over three months away - does that make you feel better or just plain scared :)
