Diary of a modern day pioneer couple

Upon James' brilliant idea that he was bored and needed to build something like a house, garage and stables, we sold our 100 acre farm between Goulburn and Marulan and bought a 200 acre farm between Gundaroo and Collector, just outside of Canberra. We are now living on the new farm in a caravan with no electricity, no sewerage and no running water! This is our story. James and Tracey

The Pergola

We have a PERGOLA!! Yes, that's right. No house still, but we do have a pergola. These are the before and after painting shots. James finished putting the laserlite on the pergola yesterday. I spent seven hours straight on Saturday with no break (not even a loo or a drink break) painting the damn thing and then another five hours on Sunday painting the verandah, which by the way isn't quite finished yet. I painted it the same colour as the roof but am a little unsure about the colour. Am thinking of changing it already :) to something quite bright and vibrant and different - like a glossy red or something like that. If anyone has any suggestions, pleeeeeaaaasssseee let me know.

James has now started to put the guttering on the verandah. That should take up this shift and then hopefully when he comes home next shift, he'll start putting the tin on.

Then, it's on to the windows and doors - now that will be a milestone!!

The weather here is starting to heat up. We've had a couple of days of 28 degrees and it's not even summer yet. The nights are still quite cool which is really nice. This will be our second summer in the shed. Now that we have a PERGOLA we could sleep under it if it gets too hot I suppose!! Another interesting statistic - we've now been almost two years without a toilet!! Two years of going to the loo up in the bush.
